Spring Term 1

Week Commencing 3/2/2020

In literacy this week we have been using a story start (see below) to then write our own space themed story.

In maths we have been calculating the area and perimeter of rectangles, squares and compound shapes.  Ask your child what the formula for finding the area is.

It has been an exciting week in topic!!  We have taken on the challenge of applying to be an astronaut.  We have researched the following: what qualifications are required, skills and attributes that are beneficial, personality traits that are advantageous and also what training is required.  Next week will write a letter of application and also carry out a series of challenges.  Have you got what it takes to be an astronaut?

Week Commencing 20/1/2020

In literacy, we have been enjoying our class book 'Cosmic' and using it to write formal letters of complaint in character.  We have also been learning about active and passive sentences - ask your child if they can remember the little tip of how to identify the different sentences.

I have added a link below of a useful revision video.

In maths we carried out a circle investigation to discover the relationship between the diameter, radius and circumference.  We have also been reading and plotting coordinates in all four quadrants.

Feel Good Friday!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Mr Caine into school on Friday afternoon to talk all about his career as a paramedic. It was fascinating! He showed use how to deliver accurate CPR, gave us an insight into what kinds of tests a paramedic might have to carry out on a patient and allowed us to have a look in his first responder car.

Week Commencing 13/1/2020
We were so proud of our choir group at the Young Voices concert. They sang and danced their hearts out and did us proud on every level. Thank you to all the wonderful parents of these children who have supported them with learning their songs and some even managed to get to the concert - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Feel Good Friday - 17th January

Wow!  What an afternoon!  We had the pleasure of welcoming two parents (Mrs Lynch and Dr Williams) into each classroom to hear and enjoy listening about their jobs and careers.  It was very interesting! Mrs Lynch works as a 999/111 operator and is also a Community First Responder.  Dr Williams works at Hull University in the Business department and she also shared her experience of working at Disney Land!

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

I hope you had a fantastic time with your families and friends over the festive period!

Week Commencing 6/1/2020

Our Feel Good Friday Theme this half term is Community and Careers and PSHCE topic is Me and My Future. As a school, we believe it is important to broaden horizons and raise aspirations when considering career choices children may wish to make in the future. We aim to give the children a wide range of experiences of the world including the world of work. It is about opening doors, showing children the vast range of possibilities open to them and helping to keep their options open for as long as possible.

To launch our theme we had a very exciting visit into school - PC Gummerson with PD Dixon and PD Isla, who were joined by PCSO Hudson and PCSO Mainprize to talk about their work within North Yorkshire Police.
