For some years now, the Government has provided funding to primary schools in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport. All state-maintained schools, academies, middle schools, special schools and pupil referral units which have primary aged pupils receive the funding.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We are held accountable for how we use the additional funding to support pupil progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details.
Allocation:
All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils receive a lump sum of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil. The attached reports below shows how we have spent the funding in 2024-25 and this is our Impact Statement:
The PE and sport premium funding has had a significant and positive impact across the school, helping to raise the quality of physical education and increase pupil participation. Staff confidence and competence in teaching PE have grown through targeted CPD, including internal training and specialist coaching. This has led to more inclusive and engaging lessons that support all pupils, including those with SEND, girls, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The funding has also supported a wider range of sports and physical activities, ensuring every child has the opportunity to enjoy being active and develop key skills.
Pupil engagement in sport and physical activity has risen noticeably, with increased participation in clubs, competitions, and swimming lessons. The school has seen improvements in pupils’ attainment, confidence, and enthusiasm for PE, with 73% of Year 6 pupils now swimming competently and safely. By fully utilising its funding allocation, the school has ensured lasting benefits through staff development, community partnerships, and enhanced sporting provision, fostering a culture where all pupils are encouraged to lead healthy, active lives.
