Happy Christmas and New Year!
Week Commencing 2/12/2019
In science we carried out an investigation into which finch beaks were better adapted to different types of seeds. The three types of finches we investigated were the large broad beaked finch, the small broad beaked finch and the sharp beaked finch. We represented the beaks with tongs, a peg and some tweezers and the seeds were represented by maltesers, chewits and millions. We timed how many seeds each beak picked up in a set time (30seconds).
A huge well done to all of Year 5 and 6 children for creating some super stalls for the fayre. Lots of fun was had and lots of money raised!
Week Commencing 25/11/2019
In literacy, we have been using the Greek Myth 'King Midas and the Golden Touch' as a stimulus for our writing. Take a look at our pictures below that show us using drama to generate ideas and empathise with different characters.
Week Commencing 18/11/19
We have had a jam packed week of learning!
In literacy, we have been writing our own Greek Myths using many figurative language devices: personification, alliteration, similes, metaphor and onomatopoeia.
In maths, we have been consolidating our work on division using the bus stop method and then applying our knowledge to reasoning questions.
During our topic this week, we have been learning about the effectiveness of Ancient Greek warfare and presenting a PowerPoint about triremes (war ships).
Carrying on our science topic (Evolution and Inheritance), we have been looking at the adapted features of two animals: the polar bear and camel. Ask your child if they can tell you the adapted features and why they are required.
